Welcome to Washington Tour

Guests will enjoy a four-hour overview private tour of Washington DC that highlights the beauty and awe of the city’s iconic buildings and monumental core. This tour is ideal for guests visiting Washington, DC for the first time, or for those who have not toured in the past several years and want to see the more recent additions such as the WWII (2004) and Martin Luther King, Jr. (2011) memorials. The spectacular views of the city featured in this four-hour tour include the view of the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and the magnificent Jefferson Memorial from the Tidal Basin.

Throughout this four-hour tour, guests will be led by a licensed professional guide who will entertain them with the history and lore of Washington, DC.

(6 to 8 hours)- A tour that includes all the highlights of the Welcome to Washington tour, but goes more in-depth with guided tours inside the US Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, the National Archives and more. The additional stops are customized to your interests.

A Most Pleasant Estate: a Tour of Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington

Regarding Mount Vernon, George Washington wrote, “No estate in United America is more pleasantly situated than this.”  A visit to the estate will undoubtedly confirm the truth of his statement. A visit to the estate will reveal its unparalleled ability to tell the story of the unique life and person of George Washington. While at the estate, guests will:

  • Tour the Mansion and grounds, Washington’s tomb, the Slave Memorial, the gardens and green house.
  • Visit the Museum and Education Center
  • Option for Lunch at the charming Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. Several recipes served at the Inn have been featured in cooking periodicals, including Gourmet Magazine.

On the way to Mount Vernon, guests will drive through Old Town Alexandria, the “home town” of George Washington. Many of the points of interest listed can be made into a tour stop on an extended tour:

Museums Galore!

(2 to 4 hours)  We are pleased to arrange highlights tours of major museums and specialized tours of the various collections within the many cultural institutions of Washington, all led by private tour guides. For example, tours can be arranged for special exhibitions at the Smithsonian museums, National Gallery of Art, Hirshorn, Freer, Sackler, Corcoran, Folger Shakespeare Library, National Building Museum and many more.

Remembering our Armed Forces: Arlington Cemetery and War Memorials

(3-4 hours) Guests will take 2-3 hour walking tour of Arlington National Cemetery, highlights include the Kennedy grave sites, the Custis-Lee Mansion, and the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. The tour will continue with visits to war and veteran’s memorials, including:

  • The Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial
  • The Korean War Veteran’s Memorial
  • WWII Memorial
  • Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial

Limited transportation options are available inside the cemetery, if necessary.

African-American Heritage Tour

(3-4 hours) The tour will highlight important contributions made by African Americans of this great City. An expert guide will tell of the history of slavery, civil rights, and the plight of African Americans including Benjamin Banneker, Phillip Reed, Frederick Douglass, Duke Ellington, Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Height, Mary McLeod Bethune, and others.

Stops Include:

  • Cedar Hill, the home of Frederick Douglass, who after escaping from slavery became a leader of the abolitionist movement.
  • Historic U Street, an important african-american neighborhood once referred to as the “Black Broadway,” due to its many theaters, nightclubs and ballrooms frequented by jazz greats, including Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton. Some might want to stop by the landmark eatery
  • Lincoln Memorial, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his speech, “I have a dream” in presence of over 200,000 freedom marchers.

While the majority of our tours last approximately 3-4 hours, we can customize a full-day itinerary, or one that spans multiple days.  It would be our pleasure to do the work of planning an itinerary that maximizes your time and minimizes your stress.

Larger Groups

We are able to accommodate larger groups.  We can arrange motor coach or mini bus service as part of the tour, or we can supply a “step-on”guide to groups who have already arranged for their own transportation.
